"제주 서귀포를 배경으로 한 방앤리의 <액트제로 노지>는 얕은 갯벌에 현지 백토로 만든 3D 프린팅 건물 모형들이 밀려드는 파도의 힘에 무너지는 모습을 보여준다. 이 지역에서 ‘노지’ 는 아직 산업 활동에 사용되지 않는 ‘맨땅’을 의미하며, 해수면 상승으로 인해 그곳에 거주하는 인간-비인간 공동체는 극도로 위태로워지고 있다. <액트제로 노지>는 부재 또는 ‘벌거벗음’ 그 자체의 상실과 우리의 덧없는 인간중심주의에 대한 명상일 뿐만 아니라, 우리가 이 세상에 존재하는 방식에서 ‘무’ 또는 공허함을 어떻게 전면에 내세울 수 있을지 생각해보게 한다."

Spectres of Our Own Making

"Set in Seogwipo in Jeju, Bang & Lee’s ActZero Noji shows the dissolution of 3-D printed building models made from local Korean baekto or white clay, perched in the shallow intertidal zone, which collapse in the encroaching tides and the force of waves. ‘Noji’ refers to ‘bare ground’ in this region, the parts of coastal land that have not yet been co-opted by industrial activities, but have become exceedingly precarious for human and non-human communities living there due to rising sea levels. ActZero Noji is not only a meditation on the loss of absence or ‘bareness’ itself and our transient anthropocentric existence, but also asks us to think with how we might foreground ‘zero’-ness or a particular emptiness in our ways of existing in this world."
